The Heavy Menace is rated for 9V to 12V, but you don't get any added headroom benefits from running the Heavy Menace on 12V as opposed to 9V.
Both 9V and 12V are regulated down to 8V in the Heavy Menace, then -8V is created which gives you 16V of headroom which is a lot!
